Application process

Do you have an exciting project idea that will open up a river and restore river flow and biodiversity? Apply for one of our programme grants during our next call for applications!

We are currently not accepting applications. Our next call for categories A3 and A4 applications is on 3 November 2023. Please carefully read and review our application resources for more information. Please apply online via our Grant Management System.

The programme runs a 9-month grant cycle for category A and B grants. The process is as follows:

  • Call for short Expression of Interest (EoI)
  • If your EoI is shortlisted, you will be invited to submit a more detailed Proposal
  • If your Proposal is accepted, you will be offered a grant

The time between making a call for EoI and being awarded a grant is approximately nine months.

The call for EoI is applicable to the following grant categories:

  • A1 – Barrier identification and prioritisation,
  • A2 – Dam removal: pre-demolition,
  • A3 – Dam removal: demolition, and
  • B – Enabling others to remove dams.

For a select few grant types, the programme may run a 4-month cycle. The process is as follows:

  • Call for Proposal
  • If your Proposal is accepted, you will be offered a grant

The call for Proposals applies to the following grant categories:

  • A4 – Dam removal: demolition – preparatory works previously funded by the programme (A1 and/or A2 grant), and
  • C – Enabling the European dam removal movement
